What is dance? This is a question I have been asking myself over and over as I plan the Jumping Frames programme. Body language is an important part of any film, from fight choreography in action movies to the different ways people of different ages and different needs move, like the gestures of communication in sign language. All of these movements could inspire a dance choreographer and be transformed into creative elements for the stage. If this is our line of thinking, then why should we draw lines and limit ourselves as to what “screendance” can be? With this reasoning, we let the festival site grow beyond the cinema to the newly restored Tai Kwun Centre for Heritage and Arts. With this move, we hope to open up new horizons for the festival through exciting new directions in programming……
