Chinese Dance

Basic Training – Elementary

This course focuses on the body alignment, musicality and technique in Chinese classical dance. The class consists two sections – the barre and the centre. The barre is about muscle control while the centre is about the development of technical skills. Besides dance combinations, there are also jump combinations and ‘fanshen’ technique or turns around a horizontal axis. Suitable for beginners or students who are interested in Chinese Dance.
Target: suitable for beginners and students who are interested in Chinese dance.

Chinese Classical Basic Training – Elementary

With the support of the barre, this course focuses on strengthening on the body alignment and muscle control. Together with different kinds of technical skills, such as jump combinations, ‘fanshen’ techniques and turn around, students can learn about the beauty of Chinese Classical cadence.

Shen Yun – Elementary

Selections of specially designed short combinations are introduced to help students to understand how movements are connected. Fluidity and expression of the body are also the focuses.

Long Sleeves – Elementary

Students will learn basic knowledge and techniques of controlling long sleeves. The aim is to reveal exquisite movements through the use of long sleeves and the rhythm of body nuances. Suitable for students who have knowledge on body nuances.

Instructors

Graduate of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (Chinese Dance); Dancer of Hong Kong Dance Company (1991-2009)

Graduate of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (Chinese Dance)

Leung was trained in Chinese dance at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. In 1988, he was invited by Lin Hwai-min to teach Chinese classical and folk dance at the Taipei Institute of the Arts. He joined the Hong Kong Dance Company in 1989, and later that year received a scholarship from the Asian Cultural Council to further his training at the University of Hawaii. He joined the City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC) in 1990, with which he danced leading roles in many of its major productions. He joined DanceArt Hong Kong in 1995 as a choreographer and core member, and went on tour with the company to Taiwan, Germany and the United States.  Leung is currently the Artistic Director of DanceArt Hong Kong.
