Why 冬 We Dance ? — Start with embracing yourself

Exhibition x Pop up Store

Embrace the winter with a hug.

Embrace memory, story and history.

City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC)continues its crossover of contemporary dance with different arts forms. Artistic Director Yuri Ng and six fashion designers tailored brand new 16 outfits by redesigning CCDC old costumes. With old materials, we keep our 42-year dance story, and share the changes of the past and the present.

The history and imprint of the city will be revealed multi-dimensionally with these redesigned outfits, photography works and the stories created by Storyteller. And Yuri will be the storyteller, visitors can listen to the stories of the costumes via his vocal story navigation.

Moving into the 42nd dance season, our costumes accumulated lots of stories and cultures. “Do the costumes only being used once?” Our Wardrobe Manager Linda Lee, and 6 designers looked at the pile of costumes and shoes and redesigned these old costumes, they tailored brand new outfits for 14 dancers so that the stories in the fabric just keep on growing.

As we move into the 42nd dance season of CCDC, our new Artistic Director Yuri Ng is working through a creative process for the upcoming four dance seasons that are themed around winter, spring, summer and autumn respectively.  “Why 冬 We Dance?”
