Dance Season 2018

The World of Dance - Crossing the Boarders

CCDC Dance Season 2018/19

Advance Booking available NOW

This season, we are presenting six new programmes: opening the season is a new music theatre Requiem HK, a joint project between CCDC and the well-loved a cappella group Yat Po Singers, with choreography by the cross-disciplinary artist Yuri Ng. In this nostalgic journey through the history of Hong Kong which doubles as a requiem for this city, identities of dancers and singers are overlapped and juxtaposed.

It is then followed by Season(s), a performance exhibition comprising three pieces created from a two-year collaboration between CCDC and Expressions Dance Company (EDC) from Australia. Evolved from the subject of climate change and life, choreographed by CCDC Assistant Artistic Director Dominic Wong, EDC Artistic Director Natalie Weir, and Hong Kong-born Australian-Chinese independent choreographer Kristina Chan, the three pieces will be performed by dancers from the two companies. The third new work in this season is Mr Blank, created by CCDC Resident Choreographer Sang Jijia, based on his experiences in Europe and Asia. Infused with his unique vision and delicate sensitivity, it uses the search of memories on one’s identity as a starting point. The fourth piece is Come Across, jointly created by Kim Jae-duk, winner of the 2017 Annual Choreographer in Korea and our own multi-talented Noel Pong, who excels both as a choreographer and a dancer. The fifth programme is very important to CCDC - 2019 Dancers' Homework, which aims to nurture choreographer amongst the dancers in the Company. The last programme is created by raising star choreographer Chou Shu-yi from Taiwan. Chou bases his multimedia dance work Almost 55 on his quiet observation of CCDC veteran dancer Qiao Yang's journey in dance spanning over four decades.

“Jumping Frames International Dance Video Festival”, which promotes dance creativity using video art, will continue to present a selection of international dance videos and award-winning screendance from Hong Kong, bringing together the landscape of dance from the region and abroad. As for tours outside of Hong Kong, CCDC will travel to Brisbane and Darwin in Australia, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, as well as Beijing and Shanghai in China, as a cultural ambassador to promote Hong Kong’s artistic image around the world.
