City Contemporary Dance Company’s 2015 Dance Season

365 Ways of Doing and Undoing Orientalism

When Yin and Yang clash with the Baroque

"It was a moment where the eastern aesthetics clashed with the western… it was both delicate and impressive." - Dance Journal, Hong Kong

"Best twist on tradition" - Houston Chronicle, USA

The East, not surely by tradition or cultural prospective, usually refers to Asia and the West for Europe and America. What do you correlate when coming across the East? Calligraphy, Buddha, Feng Shui, bowl, chopsticks, Mandarin gown, martial arts, long sleeves, dragon,… or meditation and yoga?

365 Ways of Doing and Undoing Orientalism is a highly acclaimed repertoire of CCDC choreographed by veteran choreographer Willy Tsao with Xing Liang. Through an exotic display and re-twist of “oriental” elements, 365 casts doubts on the West’s fascination with the Orient. Let’s look forward to 2015 version after its previous success in Australia, the US and Italy!

365 Ways of Doing and Undoing Orientalism is presented by CCDC. Tickets is available at URBTIX from 15 May onwards. Discount offers and Programme Plus Events are available, please call 2329 7803 or visit CCDC website (www.ccdc.com.hk) for details.
