The Opening Production of City Contemporary Dance Company’s 2015 Dance Season

Happy Birthday?

               -- You’re invited!

Winner of 2012 Hong Kong Dance Award “Outstanding Choreography”, Homegrown City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC) Dancer / Choreographer, Noel Pong proudly presents Happy Birthday? – a new dance about a quirky yet festive birthday celebration, a party that might just be anyone’s. Happy Birthday? will be presented at Studio Theatre of Hong Kong Cultural Centre from 24 to 26 April, opening CCDC’s 2015 Dance Season.

Graduated from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Noel is a dance artist nurtured and grown up locally in Hong Kong. CCDC Artistic Director Willy Tsao describes her choreographic style as “fast, light, cold, sharp”. Her works are brisk, interesting and with a touch of authenticity, that echoes in the heart of Hong Kong audiences. Critic Lo Wai-luk finds a hint of “empathy towards loners” in her works. Pong’s work is known for its humour and theatrical presentation of everyday life, where accessible subjects make contemporary dance more familiar. Audiences describe her choreography as “down-to-earth yet unconventional” and the Hong Kong context in her works resonant with them.

Why must a birthday be happy? Could it be unhappy? About to turn 40, Pong finds inspiration in reaching this supposedly milestone in life and reflects on social networking as well as alienation in this age. Happy Birthday? is the party that entertains and enlightens. Energetic and full of excitement, everyone is welcome to this party. Whether you are a dance fan or not, you are invited!

Happy Birthday? is presented by CCDC. Tickets is available at URBTIX from 13 March. Discount offers and Programme Plus Events are available, please call 2329 7803 or visit CCDC website (www.ccdc.com.hk) for details.
