Contemporary dance is a style of dance that emerged in the 20th century as an outgrowth of modern dance and other 20th century dance techniques. Pure technique is mainly a barre work with a little centre work. This class is a mixture of classical ballet and contemporary techniques. That leads into sequences exploring dynamics such as weight, suspension and rebound. Target: Suitable for students have basic in ballet or modern dance.

Based on the fundamental skills of Ballet, Lyrical Jazz Dance is a blend of the classical dance blending techniques of Jazz Dance to create a perfect avenue of self-expression performed to contemporary music. Students will gain fluidity of movement, grace, control, individual expression, and self-confidence. Classes will consist of warm-up, center and across the floor combinations, floor work, jumps, and partnering. Students will also practise performing skills while learning to express the contents of the songs through dance. Target: suitable for all people.

In this class we are going to develop our inner potentials of our body through some improvisational practices. The structure of human body is extremely subtle, it has infinite possibilities for different movements and activities, but in our mundane life most of the people merely using their body only for quite limited ways, such as walking, sitting, lifting.. So much so, improvisational practices not just can help us to warm up our body but also can help us to break through our mental and physical limitations and take them to a higher level. Simply speaking, when our body and mind are becoming more and more flexible, it will be easier for us to learn any new things. In second half of the class we're going to focus on move our body and follow the beat of music. Try to feel the freedom or any barriers that emerging from your body during the practice. Rise your inner awareness, put it all on your dance moves. We will also respond to the need of people who want to exercise and shed some sweat.

  • Michael Chan

    Michael graduated from Hong Kong Academy for dance performing art and has thereby received comprehensive training on different techniques including Jazz, Jazz Funk, Hip Hop(new style), House, Chicago Footwork, Contemporary, Ballet, Chinese Dance in many dance schools.

    He has had many performance opportunities for numerous events of dance programme, magazine and advertising, since performing Art Festival Perth of Australia in 2003, Arron Kwok De Show Reel Live in Concert dancer in 2007 and 2008.

    Michael had teaches at several for primary school, secondary school, Mental Disabilities school, also is some of the Hong Kong artists dancing instructor. Except for work, he continued his dance training in U.S.A of Millennium Dance Complex, Movement Lifestyle Studio, Debbie Reynolds Studio, International Dance Academy Hollywood, Edge Performing Arts Center.

    Michael started dancing when he was very young, and learned Michael Jackson dance by himself around 10 years, he had imitate his dance very well. Michael is the performer of Michael Jackson "This Is It" opening ceremony in Hong Kong. And to be the perform guest for Michael Jackson bronze statue opening in Guangzhou. Also numerous of organization opening, Charity, media programme, TV and magazine interview etc, invited by many dancing organization for the performer, it was admired to "Hong Kong Michael Jackson" by HK media.

    Since 2010, he established Hong Kong MJ Michael Chan Dance Company. He is push forwarding the Michael Jackson's dance and music culture, thru popularize Michael Jackson's image, music, dance perform and devotion. To represent of the dancing organization, he would like to use his dance spirit and the heart to extend too many different level and to the next generation.
  • Yan Yan Chan
    >>

    Yan is now a freelance dancer, instructor and choreographer. She started her Hip Hop and Jazz dance training in 2000 and following graduation she had worked as a dance tutor in several famous Hong Kong academies for Arts, teaching Jazz Funk, Hip Hop and Urban Dance.

    In the past decade, Yan taught in numbers of social services agencies, tertiary institutions, secondary and primary schools and kindergartens. She is experienced in teaching and always try her best to fit students’ individual aptitude.

    Yan and her team also active in commercial event production and performance in recent years.  She enjoys challenge, and treasures any opportunities to work with different parties.

    She is a former member of the Hong Kong Ballet and Tanz Graz (Austria), and was a soloist with Ballett Bremerhaven (Germany). Currently working as an independent dancer and choreographer. Her recent choreographies include: My Shadow and Me presented by the Hong Kong Art Festival 2011, Galatea & Passenger presented by LCSD’s “New Force in Motion” Series (2010), Galatea &Pygmalion at the Hong Kong Dance Festival 2010. Other works includes, Toy Story with Ballett Bremerhaven; Symphonic Magic with Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra; Narcissus and Echo at “Emerging Choreographers 2007 - Taking Off”;  A Serpent Eating Its Own Tail at the Fringe Festival 2007; Angel #666 vs Demon #999 at the Hong Kong Dance Festival 2006; and Studio Storm. Other recent performances include: Andy Lau Unforgettable Concert 2010; B. O. B. (choreographed by Dick Wong); Spooool & Nocturnal Vista (produced by Theatre du Pif); The Story of Island and Boat (produced by Y-Space).

    <<Galatea & Pygmalion>> received the Hong Kong Dance Award 2011.
  • Kate Li

    Graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with an Advanced Diploma majoring in Musical Theatre Dance.

    Kate is an experienced performer and has participated in many Musicals and Dance Productions. She has been learning Belly dance for more than three years. She attended Suhaila Salimpour’s Belly dance workshop in 2009 and 2010. Kate has rich performing experiences. Her Belly Dance experiences include Orientalia 08 , World Belly Dance 09 ,International Dance Extravaganza and some public performances.

    She is now a belly dance instructor and performer.

  • Shirley Lok
    >>
    Born in Shanghai, Shirley Lok graduated from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2009 majoring in Ballet.

    During her studies she was awarded several scholarships. She has performed widely in Hong Kong and toured with various professional dance companies including The Hong Kong Ballet. In 2007 she joined CCDC's youth dance ensemble WuDaoQinNian, when her interest in modern dance was sprouted.

    She joined CCDC in 2010.

  • Terry Tsang
    >>

    Terry Tsang fell in love with dance and music during young age. He graduated from HKAPA, majoring in contemporary dance. He joined CCDC in 2013 . 

    During his studies, he embarked on his journey in choreography and was invited to perform in various productions at the Academy and beyond.
    Between 2012 to 2013, with a scholarship awarded by the CCDC Dance Centre,

    he presented his choreographies Exotic Territoryand Sound • Gravity at the Bejing Dance Festival. Exotic Territory was also invited to the 9th Guangdong Dance Festival and Imagination Boom for E- Side Dance Company in 2012 and 2014.

    In early 2016, his new work Hide‧ Flee premiered at 2016 Dancers' Homework by CCDC and was a resounding success. In this year, Tsang also unveiled his latest choreography, Sole, was invited to the 18th Hong Kong Dance Awards Presentation & Gala Performance.

     

  • Anita Wong

    Anita has learnt Ballet since she was 4 years old. 

    She has been selected as a dancer of Hong Kong Student Dance Group (Modern Dance) at the age of 12.  She went to Canada at the age of 15 and studied Modern Dance and Western Folk Dance in University of Alberta and Grand McEwan Community College.  After returning to Hong Kong, she continued learning different kinds of dance forms, including Jazz, Tap and Flamenco.  Anita has rich performing experiences.  She has participated in a number of musical productions.  She was also a Belly dance performer in a theme restaurant and has performed Belly dance in some private parties and public performances. 

    She is now a Belly dance instructor in Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions and Ray’s Production Company.

    Gat start dancing since 2005. He specializes in Hip hop, also has been trained the different style include Popping, Locking, House and Jazz. He also had further training in Japan.

    Gat is now a freelance Dancer. He gained opportunity of a variety of performance like Concerts, Music Video and has worked with several famous artist.
