China Dance Development
With Hong Kong's reunification with China in 1997, CCDC has repositioned itself as "a Hong-Kong-based dance company endeavouring to bring together the best of Chinese talents to create dance for contemporary China".
Since 1985, our Artistic Director Willy Tsao has already started teaching modern dance workshops in various cities on the Mainland, including Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Fuzhou, Kunming and Taiyuan. He subsequently helped set up the first 4-year Modern Dance Diploma Programme at the Guangdong Dance School. From 1992 to 1998, he was invited by the Guangdong Cultural Department to be the Artistic Director of Guangdong Modern Dance Company (GMDC), the first professional modern dance company in the mainland China.
After 1997, CCDC embarked on its China Dance Development Programme. Further on the groundwork we have laid on the mainland, we hope to enhance collaboration with mainland artists. Armed with CCDC's artistic vision, administrative and marketing experiences, we wish to mobilise the resources and talents in the mainland and Hong Kong to complement with each other. There are three main goals that we would like to achieve:
  • To encourage original and innovative creation while maintaining a standard of excellence;
  • To enhance the appreciation for modern dance through long-term educational activities;
  • To promote international dance exchange and help to build a new cultural image for mainland China and Hong Kong.

BeijingDance / LDTX

BeijingDance / LDTX, formerly known as Beijing LDTX Modern Dance Company, was established in September 2005. It was founded by Willy Tsao from Hong Kong and Li Hanzhong from Yunnan province, who took up the posts of the artistic director and deputy artistic director respectively. The founding members, coming from the Beijing Modern Dance Company, are devoted artists excel in both technicality and creativity.

The goal of the Company is to provide the dancers of China with a platform to showcase their highly individualistic bodies, minds and emotions. The dance of the LDTX puts emphasis on the personality, the relevance to the contemporary, and the originality. Each dancer in the Company, being a performer and a choreographer, values preciously his very own way of expression, but at the same time, keeps utmost respect to the different approach made by the others. They work seamlessly together to bring modern dance to China.

In spite of its relatively short history, LDTX gathers under its wings a wealth of dance works of diverse styles. In the coming year, the Company is gearing up for many new works, and is ready to be approached for extensive international engagement. Many business enterprises also enlist the Company to help their image building and new product launching. After all, the artists in LDTX are well-known for their creative dancing and great enthusiasm.

LDTX also provides extensive modern dance training to the community. The setup of the LDTX training centre is highly regarded by the young people who are interested in taking dance lessons seriously or just as a hobby. The dance courses are divided into four sections: technique, choreography, repertoire and theory. They are taught by the founding members and the artistic directors of the LDTX.
